Mariners Wharf, Wallasey

Client: Pochins

 Value: £200k

Mariners Wharf / Trinity House Hub is a state-of-the-art new build development and community hub at Mariners Park in Wallasey. The Park provides support, services and welfare facilities to former seafarers.

The Project:

Main contractors, Pochins, were appointed for the construction of the hub, which is operated by the Nautilus Welfare Fund – a registered charity administered by the maritime professionals’ union Nautilus International. It is a further phase of an ongoing development programme at the 16-acre site, which began with the building of a new care home and has included a wide range of new residential facilities.

Bluegyp’s work:

Main contractors, Pochins, appointed bluegyp to the project. bluegyp installed Kingframe, a lightweight, steel frame building system, to the top floor. It also carried out all the internal lining and plastering and fitted suspended ceilings. The architecturally designed building is curved which presented unique challenges during the installation process.

Outcome:

Bluegyp completed its work on time and within budget, ensuring a high quality finish was achieved. Formally opened by HRH The Princess Royal in April 2014, the development provides 18 fully-accessible high quality apartments for older seafarers and their dependants, along with community facilities including a café, a spa, a gym and rooms for meetings and hobbies.
