Marks and Spencer, Cheshire Oaks

Client: Simons Group Ltd

 Value: £800k

M&S Cheshire Oaks is one of the largest stores in M&S’ portfolio and is the third in a series of sustainable, eco-friendly learning stores.

 The Project:

M&S Cheshire Oaks was designed to be the most carbon efficient, premier M&S store addressing several areas of sustainability including carbon, the community, materials and zero waste to landfill. Throughout the construction process, the key focus for the Main Contractors, Simons Group Ltd, was to ensure the delivery of a highly sustainable, eco-friendly store while achieving specific budget and programme requirements. This would require building in a sustainable way with no waste to landfill and using natural and sustainable materials where possible.

Bluegyp’s work:

Bluegyp was appointed by Simons Group Ltd to carry out internal work on the store. This included the installation of suspended ceilings and internal partitions, made of 100% recycled materials, and lime render which was mixed using rain water harvested from the roof and ceilings. All waste was recycled and nothing sent to landfill.

Outcome:

Bluegyp ensured that all work was completed to a high standard, meeting the specific requirements and timescales of the main contractor and client. The flagship store opened in August 2012, and is M&S’ most carbon efficient store. It has gone on to win multiple awards and achieved a BREEAM excellent rating – the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method.
